John and Joan Schmit

During John's career as a Boeing Co. executive, he enjoyed restoring classic wooden boats. He restored several Century and Chris Craft run-abouts to operating and near-show condition. As with this Thea Foss row boat, he often had to repair and replace wooden parts.

Acquiring wood, and supplies for these boats required numerous trips to Seattle from his home on Lake Tapps. Durning one of these trips, the idea struck Joan to open a store for woodworkers in a building they were renovating in Sumner.

About Us

Sumner Woodworker Store is one of the largest and more specialized woodworking stores in the State of Washington. We are a great one-stop-shop for woodworking and wood carving. Our facility is about 10,000 sq.ft. of space full of common tools, supplies, and materials.

We offer broad set of knowledge that is often not available at lumber yards and commercial home repair stores. All our tools are inspected, assembled, and tested prior to sale. When comparing prices please consider that we are not a warehouse store and internet distributor and we work to ensure the products meet your needs and are ready to run when you get them home.

The goal of a quality product and to provide the best customer services means we rarely see returns or requests for repairs.

Our staff consist of all woodworkers. We're not a commercialized home repair store, but we do love what we do and our passion is helping our customers with their visions and projects.

When you enter the store take a look around and we'll be waiting to assist you when you're ready. We like our customers to explore the store and enjoy the journey through woodworking. Our customers are hobbyists and common professionals that know what they're looking for and appreciate the option of asking for help. When you're ready for assistance our staff has a few years’ experience and equal passion for woodworking.
